Political Situation in Ukraine

Now the most important task for the new Government is to restore order and peace. At the same time, it is safe in Kiev, the people go to work and have ordinary lives. All establishments work and the SDA (DFC) as well. The situation didn't affect adoptions and we don't expect any changes in adoption laws in the nearest time.

The situation remains difficult in the Crimean Peninsula. There are Russian troops and they maintain order on the territory as they say. Of course, the situation is tense because Russia has no right to invade our territory and they broke all laws and treaties. At this time there is no escalation, Ukrainians maintain peace and don't yield to provocations from Russian side. We don't expect war or armed conflict but we don't recommend to travel to Crimea and Eastern part of the country. We stay for Ukraine's sovereignty and unity and we believe that Russian plan to separate Ukraine will not work. Please, know that this conflict is artificial, there is no humiliation of Russian-speaking people in Ukraine. All Ukraine raised to show the people are against separation, they want to live in Ukraine and they support Ukraine. Russia tries to separate our country and sends Russian people to different cities in Ukraine to make demonstrations and protests, they want conflicts and disputes. But we all hope the things will get better and we will win our fight for freedom and human rights.

Political situation update 03/19/14

Many people think that Ukraine is on the verge of civil war, especially on the East (Lugansk, Kharkiv, Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk) where pro-Russian activists clashes have been reported.

In reality, it is calm in these cities. There were demonstrations last week but the people have their ordinary lives, go to work and on business. They don't react on provocations which are caused by Russian "tourists" and "paid" activists. Nothing major is happening there, no violence and conflicts have been reported this week.

Adoptions work in these regions, the SDA doesn't issue referrals to Crimea only.
